GRCB Audio Chain Letter

In this video Alison Murray shows you how she creates beats using Ableton 9. Watch and listen to her process as she creates a beat that is the heart of our new collaborative music experiment: Audio Chain Letter (https://grcb.bandcamp.com/album/audio...) Join in the fun by downloading this beat and adding to it in your own way, then passing it to a friend! Your finished song will be put up in the Audio Chain Letter album and we can see how many different directions a song can go!

Here’s how it works:

1. Head to our bandcamp page (https://grcb.bandcamp.com/album/audio...) and choose the track you want to use for your song and download for FREE or contribute to GRCB if you are able to support the Org during this time.

2. Add to the beat to make it your own. You can do this any way you want! Some examples of how you can do this are:

a. Recording live instrument/vocal parts you want to add on a voice memo app on your phone while the beat plays in the background

b. By importing it into music software (like garageband, reaper, or ableton) and adding digital or live instruments/vocals over it

c. Any other way you want to add to it!

3. Take a picture or video of yourself as you work on your part and post it on social media, tag Girls Rock Campaign Boston (Facebook: @GirlsRockCampaignBoston or Instagram: @grcboston) and use the hashtag #grcbaudiochain so that GRCB can highlight what you do and we can build community around the project!

4. Pass your recording on to a friend you want to collaborate with, along with the Audio Chain Letter script you can find on Bandcamp (make sure to write in your credits!)

5. Your friend will add to it and pass it to someone else, and that person will add to it and pass it on, until the song sounds complete.

6. When the song sounds complete, the last person to work on it passes it back to GRCB

7. GRCB posts your finished song with credits in the Audio Chain Letter bandcamp album for everyone to hear!
